Despite the fact that the gaming industry experienced a notable crisis in 2012, and video game retail sales were 22 percent down, there are still games that sell really well. Halo 4, for example, helped its developer earn $220 million on the very first day of its release and then set two Australian sales records. Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 also succeeded last year and managed to reach $1 billion in just 15 days.
The third successful game of 2012 has also become known — according to ArenaNet’s latest announcement, their Guild Wars 2 MMO has sold more than 3 million copies in just 5-6 months (since August 2012)! Moreover, the first 2 million copies were sold in the first two weeks after the release, which is also a very impressive number.
But this success is not enough for ArenaNet. On their official website Guild Wars 2 director Colin Johanson told about the plans of the company for 2013. A new currency system will be introduced in Guild Wars 2, and players will get an alternative way to unlock certain items. Besides, playing with guilds and exploring the game world is promised to become even more fun for PVP and PVE players.
Oh, and don’t forget to watch the video below — Johanson talks about it all there:
Amelia Hunter has worked as a journalist for about 4 years and covered tech-related news for a number of newspapers and magazines both paper and online. Not so long ago she decided to start her own online magazine together with a friend, and here’s what came out of it. Other than writing about the latest technologies, Amelia loves reading, fencing and playing PC games. Her favorite manufacturer is Samsung and her favorite movie is “Mr. Nobody”. She also thinks that “Der Golem” by Gustav Meyrink is one of the best books in the world, and “The Witcher 1,2” and “Dragon Age 1,2” are among the best games ever.
